This is a wooden slab, 1-inch thick and a foot square. Upon command, it transcribes the words of the user, carving them backwards as grooves in the wood. Upon a second command, the words fill with ink am! the xylograph can then be pressed against a wall, parchment, or any receptive substance, printing its message on the sur face. Once the words are printed, the xylograph returns to its original featureless state. After the initial command word, the user may also inscribe a drawing of some son simply by using one fin ger to trace the lines desired. The xylograph functions only once per day, and can become nonmagical if damaged by fire or if anything is carved or written on its surface without the use of the first command word.
