This divination device is usually mounted on the foredeck, in the vicinity of a spelljamming helm, or in sight of the navigator. To activate the greater vane, the helmsman merely needs to ask it where a certain location is-crystal sphere, planet, or similar celestial body, and the vane of location points in the immediate direction (even up or down).
The vane points in the direction of the body last requested until the ship arrives at that location: at which point it spins around slowly, waiting for its next command. The vane of location cannot he used to find the location of a specific individual or item, If the vane is set for a specific location, and a new location is wanted, a dispel magic spell must be cast on the vane to make already to receive the new command.
