Gates are temporary or permanent portals to other planes of existence or to other worlds on the same plane. Most gates are quite ordinary in appearance, indistinguishable from mundane items of similar construction. Some gates can create portals to more than one location, although usually only one such portal can be opened at any given time. (See the Planar Fork entry under Fork for another method of planar travel.)
