A character with this proficiency is able to instinctively notice and recognize signs of a disturbance in the immediate vicinity, reducing by 1 in 10 the character's chance of being surprised whenever he makes a successful proficiency check.

The Complete Book of Dwarves[]

A character with this proficiency is able to instinctively recognize signs of disturbance in the immediate vicinity. This gives a +1 bonus on the character's surprise rolls when he makes a successful proficiency check.

The Complete Book of Humanoids[]

This proficiency allows a character to instinctively notice and recognize signs of a disturbance in the immediate vicinity. This ability reduces a character's chance of being surprised by 1 if he makes a successful proficiency check. (Note that this replaces the description of this proficiency in the Complete Thief's Handbook.)

The Complete Ranger's Handbook[]

A character with this proficiency is exceptionally attuned to his surroundings, able to detect disturbances and notice discrepancies. A successful proficiency check reduces his chance of being surprised by 1. (This replaces the description of this proficiency in The Complete Thief's Handbook.)

Campaign Option: Council of Wyrms Setting[]

Alertness allows a dragon to instinctively notice and recognize signs of a disturbance in the immediate vicinity. This proficiency reduces a dragon's chance of being surprised by 1 if it makes a successful proficiency check. Hatchlings can take this proficiency.

Shaman[]

Characters with this proficiency have an instinctive knack for noticing disturbances and discrepancies in the immediate vicinity.
